Can I take the class if I don’t own a handgun?
Yes. We have several semi-automatic handguns available for rent. The rental fee is $25 and includes 50 rounds of ammunition for the class. They are the model of handgun often used for concealed carry.

Can I share a handgun with someone else?
Yes. We often have couples with one handgun; you simply shoot at different times. This isn’t a problem because class size sometimes dictates that we shoot in two stages anyway.

Can I take the class if I don’t know how to shoot?
The CHL class is not designed to teach you how to shoot. It assumes you have a basic working knowledge of how to operate a handgun. If you have no experience at all with a handgun, then it is recommended that you first get some instruction on how to load, fire and handle a handgun safely.

What if I don’t pass the class?
Our classes are No-Fail classes. We work with you to insure you know all the material and can pass the 50-question exam. The only exception to this policy is if you create a safety hazard on the shooting range, you will be disqualified. If you simply pay attention and follow simple instructions, you will have no problem.

What should I bring to class?
If you have prepaid your application with the Department of Public Safety, bring your application packet with you. If you have not, then we will provide the application materials for you. You must bring a photo ID, preferably a Texas driver’s license. Pens, paper, etc are provided.  Please dress in something other than a white shirt or blouse. We take your passport photos, and the State requires a white background for the photo. It is better to wear something with some color for contrast.  Do not bring your firearm into the classroom.

What should I bring to the range?
If you don’t rent a firearm from us, then you need to bring one of .32 caliber or larger and 50 rounds of factory ammunition. It is recommended that you use a semi-automatic firearm to qualify if you are able. The reason for that is the license you get from the state will specify the type of firearm you are allowed to carry. If you qualify with a revolver, your license will allow you to carry a revolver only. If you qualify with a semi-automatic, then your license will permit you to carry either a revolver or a semi-automatic.

Is your course fee the only fee?
No. Our fee is for the 10-hour minimum certified course required by the State. Once you complete our course, then you must apply to the State for a license. The State application fee is $140 that must be sent with your application packet. That fee is reduced 50% for applicants 60 years or older. The fee is waived for active military.

How long does it take to get my concealed handgun license?
Upon completion of the training course and application packet, the State has 60 days from the time it receives your completed materials to issue your license.
